Personal Identity
Definition
A Personal Identity is the public layer for a person as a private individual and community member — not as a company, office, or content channel.
Account is private. Identity is public. Reputation belongs to the identity.
Purpose
To give every member a human public presence that can stay separate from professional work, business ownership, and publishing brands.
Why it exists
A person is not a business. Private life, neighborhood presence, and personal voice should not be forced into the same public surface as a company page or a client-facing professional role.
Who it is for
- Every member (Personal is the default public person layer)
- People who want a community-facing presence distinct from work
Typical use cases
- Neighbor / community member
- Parent or family presence
- Local volunteer as a person
- Resident sharing local life
How it works
Created under one Account. Public fields and hubs belong to this identity only. Switching away from Personal does not delete it; it changes which public role is active.
Examples
- Sharing local community updates as yourself
- A public person page that is not a résumé and not a storefront
What belongs here
- Personal bio, community presence, person-scoped hubs and links
What doesn’t belong here
- Company hours, hiring, product catalogs (use Business Identity)
- Client-facing professional services branding (use Professional Identity)
- Treating Personal as the only place for every public role
