Canonical Definition

This page contains the official NoFakeBiz definition of Account.

This concept is part of the official NoFakeBiz vocabulary.

Last reviewed: July 2026 Version: 1.0

Definition

An Account is the private membership root of a person on NoFakeBiz: login, security, and control over public identities. The account is not a public page, not a brand, and not a substitute for a Public Identity.

The public never “meets” the account. The public meets Public Identities. The account is the private instrument that owns and manages them.

An Account is private control. A Public Identity is public presence.

Account is private. Identity is public. Reputation belongs to the identity.

Purpose

To provide one secure place from which a person can create, manage, and switch among multiple independent public identities without creating multiple logins.

Why it exists

Public life has many roles; authentication should have one. Separating the private account from public identities prevents private data from becoming public by default and prevents company or institutional presence from being confused with a person’s private life.

Without this separation, every public role would either share one mixed profile or require a separate login. The account exists so neither mistake is necessary.

Who it is for

  • Every registered member
  • Anyone who will hold more than one public role

Typical use cases

  • One login for Personal and Professional presence
  • One login that also owns a Business Identity
  • Private fields (such as date of birth) that stay off public pages

How it works

A person owns one Account. That account manages Digital You by holding one or more Public Identities. Identity Switching changes which public role is active. Reputation accumulates on the identity that acted — not on the account.

Registration creates an account. Visitors see identities — not the account’s private fields.

Examples

  • One login manages Personal, Professional, and Business identities
  • Date of birth and street address stay on the account / private profile — not on every public layer

What belongs here

  • Authentication, membership, security settings, private profile fields, ownership of identities

What doesn’t belong here

  • Using the account itself as the public “brand”
  • Publishing company news under the private login instead of a Business identity
  • Exposing private account fields as if they were a Public Identity
  • Treating Account, Digital You, and Public Identity as three names for the same thing

Relationship to other concepts

Grammar of participation:

Person owns Account → Account manages Digital You → Digital You uses Public Identities → Public Identity builds Reputation.

Account enables Digital You but is not identical to it. Public speech happens through Public Identity.

Position in the platform

  1. Digital You ›
  2. Account ›
  3. Public Identity
